2008 Wishlist

2008 wish list to our provincial and local leaders and to our province as well:
  • Stop illegal logging for it only benefits a few who don't care about our future generations and environment. Invite local, international NGOs and cause-oriented groups to monitor our forest cover before its too late.
  • Organize and support NGOs, cooperatives and associations. They will achieve more than individual initiatives, likewise, choose talents as well among these groups.
  • Focus on our beaches for income generating projects such as eco-tourism, fish processing and retirement home seekers. We should accept typhoons as gift and not as bane to development. There should be equal development both inland and offshore resource to prevent economic and ecological imbalance.
  • Enact laws and incentives to help our local power utility maximize its income through efficient distribution of power load i.e. industries should operate during off-peak hours instead of competing during peak hours thereby causing power interruptions. Efficient power load distribution lowers operating cost and lower power rate.
  • Do research and development in abaca processing instead of trading it as a raw material. And also to our indigenous plants and herbs that are endemic to our land. For this would bring much needed opportunity, pride to our people and reduce brain drain.
  • As to education, local governments and head of schools should request the participation of Globe or Smart companies to include internet access in their present service and be made available to our remote municipalities. Satellite broadband technology is available but the cost is not sustainable for public institutions.
  • e-governance should be in the top agenda at provincial and local levels. Each municipal units should have an operating websites where one can transact business online anywhere at anytime. Online service to include property tax payments, licensing, document authentication etc.
  • Entry points to our province should have a world class and well maintained bathrooms to showcase that we too are concern about our personal hygiene and sanitation, common comments by international and local travelers who dropped by our province.
  • For our aging pensioners, ask our local leaders to request the agency to show that they really care. Let the GSIS people instead visit the pensioners and not require the pensioners to travel because most of them are already in their fragile state.
  • Last, let there be peace in our island. For it is costly to win a war and easier to pursue economic development and eradicate poverty.
